Mauritania Launches New Digital Platform for Mining Oversight

Mauritania’s Ministry of Mines and Industry has introduced a digital platform to monitor and manage mining and quarrying licenses, enhancing transparency and simplifying administrative processes.
The platform enables secure submission of production, expense, and CSR data, streamlining the oversight of a sector contributing 23% to the nation’s GDP amidst governance challenges.
Permit holders must log in securely to provide technical details, expenditure records, and CSR updates, along with filing administrative requests like sample submissions.
All submitted data is safeguarded under Article 59 of the mining law, covering activity declarations, environmental monitoring, and financial disclosures.
The ministry directs license holders to request login credentials and guidance from its regional offices or via email at contact-mmi@mmi.gov.mr.
As Mauritania lags in e-governance, ranking 174th globally with minimal online services and technology integration, this digitalization effort aims to bridge the digital divide.
Enhancing transparency within the mining sector can attract investments and foster stakeholder trust, crucial for the country’s economic growth.
By facilitating data centralization and communication channels, the platform paves the way for a more effective regulatory framework for Mauritania’s mining activities.
