Shoprite Group Announces New Partnership with Absa Offering Cash Back
Six months after the conclusion of a rewards programme deal with First National Bank’s eBucks, Shoprite Group has revealed a fresh collaboration with Absa. Shoprite, the parent company of Checkers and the renowned Sixty60 on-demand grocery delivery service, made the announcement on Wednesday regarding the partnership with Absa that will provide customers with cashback rewards of up to 60% throughout a two-month introductory period.
The pact with Absa follows similar agreements previously made by Shoprite with Discovery in August 2024 and Standard Bank in April 2025. Absa Rewards participants can now receive cashback benefits when making purchases at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, or online through Sixty60, as declared by both companies in a joint statement.
“Qualifying Absa debit or credit card transactions entitle customers to up to 60% cashback during the initial two-month promotional phase (16 August – 15 October 2025), and subsequently up to 30% cashback based on their rewards tier. The cashback is provided automatically, paid on a monthly basis, and can be utilized, saved, or reinvested as per the customer’s preferences.”
Shoprite and Checkers are noted as the primary spending category among Absa’s clientele, according to the bank.

“This initiative promotes continual engagement by rewarding daily spending habits, thereby enhancing Absa’s reputation as a bank that understands and supports its customers’ needs,” the statement highlighted.
Since its inception, Absa Rewards has disbursed more than R6.6 billion to its customers, with one individual achieving millionaire status through rewards. Customers are leveraging their rewards for various purposes such as school supplies, snacks, fuel, airtime, savings for significant life goals, or assisting family members during challenging periods.”
