Leading Cloud Providers Join Forces for Selangor Multi-Cloud Services Initiative

In a groundbreaking move for digital innovation, Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud have partnered with Malaysia’s state telecoms infrastructure operator, Smartsel, to unveil the Selangor Multi-Cloud Services (SMC) initiative. This ambitious state-backed project is designed to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and drive digital transformation across the Selangor state. By leveraging the combined expertise of these global cloud giants, Selangor is positioning itself as a leader in digital modernization and AI readiness.

According to a statement from MBI Selangor, Smartsel’s parent company, the collaborative effort will provide comprehensive access to multinational cloud services, streamlining processes and bolstering Selangor’s digital infrastructure. With additional partnerships from leading companies like VSTECS, Awantec Systems, and Enfrasys Consulting, this initiative aims to empower sectors such as smart city development, e-government solutions, and digital education. These efforts align with Selangor’s broader vision of becoming AI-ready and digitally empowered, while improving the efficiency of public services.

Key Projects Under the Selangor Multi-Cloud Initiative

The Selangor Multi-Cloud Services project will include multiple innovative initiatives aimed at fostering AI literacy and enhancing digital capabilities in the state. Alibaba Cloud, for instance, has announced its collaboration with VSTECS to offer secure and scalable multi-cloud solutions to various government agencies and state-linked enterprises. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud intends to launch the Celik AI Selangor, an online platform designed to nurture AI literacy among youths, educators, and civil servants in Selangor. This toolkit will enable SMEs, startups, and students to develop AI solutions without incurring any upfront costs, empowering a new generation with cutting-edge, practical skills.

Moreover, MBI Selangor has partnered with AWS to establish the Selangor AI Innovation Lab by early 2026. This lab is expected to serve as an incubator for AI-centric developments, fostering innovation among state-linked entities and preparing a strong foundation for the rollout of AI-driven solutions across various sectors. The groundwork for the SMC initiative will commence by the third quarter of 2025, starting with MBI Selangor and its subsidiaries. Full implementation of the platform is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, offering benefits to state agencies, local authorities, and government-linked companies.

Transforming Selangor: From Infrastructure to Innovation

The SMC initiative’s impact extends far beyond cloud services. Its comprehensive scope is tailored to transform essential sectors, including smart government, advanced infrastructure development, and e-learning programs. By strengthening Selangor’s digital backbone, the SMC will increase efficiency within public services, create smarter cities, and enable effective integration of cutting-edge digital tools in education. Furthermore, the collaboration between technology leaders ensures that Selangor is empowered to navigate the complexities of AI and utilize these advancements to benefit its residents and economy.

This multi-cloud strategy exemplifies Selangor’s commitment to becoming a model AI-driven state. As the SMC project unfolds, it represents a significant step forward in Malaysia’s ambition to integrate advanced digital technology across public and private sectors, paving the way for a future-ready society.
