Lenovo to Establish Regional Headquarters in Saudi Arabia

Lenovo, the globally renowned Chinese technology company, has announced a major development in its expansion strategy by setting up a regional headquarters (RHQ) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This new initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and is aimed at supporting economic diversification and technological advancement in the region. The announcement underscores Lenovo’s commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the Middle East, which will be bolstered by the appointment of a leadership team to spearhead its operations in Saudi Arabia.

Strategic Collaboration with ALAT and Advanced Manufacturing Plans

A significant component of Lenovo’s regional strategy involves its collaboration with ALAT, a company owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). This partnership was introduced as part of an ambitious plan to create a global hub for sustainable technology manufacturing in the country. Earlier this year, Lenovo and ALAT broke ground on a state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Riyadh. This facility, anticipated to start production in 2026, will focus on producing cutting-edge products such as PCs, laptops, smartphones, and servers, establishing Saudi Arabia as a major player in the global tech ecosystem.

Leadership and Broader Regional Strategy

To drive its growth in Saudi Arabia, Lenovo has appointed seasoned experts to lead its regional operations. Lawrence Yu, a Lenovo veteran, will head the new regional headquarters, supported by Giovanni Di Filippo, the former President of EMEA ISG, as the general manager. Additionally, Zoran Radumilo, an ex-senior executive at industrial AI and software company IFS, will act as the company’s technology chief. This leadership team reflects Lenovo’s focus on leveraging deep expertise to accelerate its growth and build critical partnerships in the region.

Economic Impact and Investment in Technology

The company’s initiatives in Saudi Arabia, which include a flagship retail space, a VIP customer center, research and development (R&D), marketing efforts, and strategic alliances, are projected to make a significant economic impact. Lenovo estimates that these efforts, combined with the operations of the RHQ and the new manufacturing facility, could contribute up to US$10 billion to Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP by 2030. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader aim of fostering innovation-driven growth and reducing reliance on oil revenues.

Lenovo’s expansion in Saudi Arabia represents a noteworthy step in the global tech giant’s strategy to capitalize on emerging markets. By investing in cutting-edge technology and regional partnerships, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming the Middle East into a sustainable and innovative technology hub.
