Ren Gang from Tsinghua University emphasized the increasing role of machine learning (ML) in enhancing active IPv6 address scanning. Unlike IPv4, whose smaller address space made traditional scanning feasible, IPv6 requires smarter approaches due to its vast size. Ren introduced RGen/RPattern, a real-time pattern-mining algorithm tailored for IPv6 address selection in devices like handsets and DHCPv6 systems. Experiments revealed a 58% hit rate, outperforming previous models by 23%.
