Orange and Eutelsat Launch Satellite Teleport in Martinique to Strengthen Caribbean Connectivity

Global telecommunications leader Orange and satellite operator Eutelsat have partnered to launch a new teleport in Martinique, aimed at enhancing satellite coverage for the Eutelsat OneWeb constellation in the Caribbean region. Located in the town of Lamentin, this facility is strategically designed to support improved connectivity in areas where access has traditionally been challenging. Comprising 14 low Earth orbit (LEO) antennas, the Martinique teleport will provide reduced-latency connectivity to support residents, businesses, as well as military and maritime operations, significantly boosting the region’s digital infrastructure.

Enhanced Connectivity for Remote and Maritime Areas

This new satellite teleport is a critical component of Eutelsat’s ground station network, which extends seamless and reliable connection options to some of the most isolated areas in the Caribbean—both on land and at sea. By addressing connectivity gaps, particularly in geographically remote locations, this partnership meets the growing demand for reliable high-speed internet solutions. Such expansion is expected to enhance not only daily communications for local communities but also safety measures for maritime operations, ensuring a more connected and secure environment across the Caribbean and the surrounding Atlantic regions.

Integration with Hybrid Infrastructure for Secured Resilience

A notable feature of the Martinique teleport is its integration with Orange’s existing hybrid infrastructure, combining submarine cables and terrestrial networks. This setup ensures a robust, secure, and resilient connectivity system even amidst the geopolitical tensions that persist globally. With over 45 years of industry expertise and existing facilities like the WTA Tier 4 teleport in Bercenay-en-Othe, France, Orange leverages its worldwide network to position the Martinique teleport as a vital regional gateway. The new hub not only extends Eutelsat OneWeb coverage but also reinforces transatlantic communication, offering enhanced reliability across key maritime trade routes.
