Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the government-owned telecom service provider (TSP), has revised its Rs. 197 prepaid plan, reducing the validity and benefits. Previously offering 70 days of validity, the plan now provides only 54 days. The unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS per day features have been removed. Customers recharging with Rs. 197 now get 300 minutes of voice calling, 4GB total data, and 100 SMS messages. After data exhaustion, unlimited data is available at 40Kbps speed.

Under the previous plan, subscribers enjoyed unlimited local and STD voice calls, 2GB data per day for 15 days, a daily quota of 100 SMS for 15 days, and 15 days of Zing Music access. The overall validity has been reduced by 16 days. This change might affect users who preferred the plan to keep their numbers active.

In Q4 FY 2024-25, BSNL reported a profit after tax of Rs. 280 crore, a significant improvement from the previous year. The company invested in infrastructure, including network towers and spectrum, focusing on 4G and fiber technologies.
