Cameroon to Join Medusa Africa Submarine Cable Project for Enhanced Connectivity

Cameroon has taken a significant step towards advancing its digital infrastructure by finalizing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to join the Medusa Africa submarine cable project. As reported by Econfin Agency, the agreement has been sent to the Presidency for approval, with Cameroon’s share of the project estimated at CFA32.8 billion (approximately US$58.6 million). The submarine cable, an EU-backed initiative spearheaded by AFR-IX Telecom, is expected to go live in 2028, creating a direct link between Southern Europe and multiple points across West and Central Africa.

Medusa Africa: A Strategic Upgrade for Cameroon

The new Medusa submarine cable promises to bring high-capacity and efficient connectivity to Cameroon, specifically connecting at the port city of Kribi. Once operational, it will become Cameroon’s fifth international connection, complementing existing cables such as SAIL, WACS, SAT-3, and NCSCS.
