Cameroon to Join Medusa Africa Submarine Cable in Strategic Digital Initiative

Cameroon is positioning itself as a significant player in Africa’s digital transformation by finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the ambitious Medusa Africa submarine cable project. The move, reported by Econfin Agency, marks a critical step in strengthening Cameroon’s digital infrastructure. The MoU is now awaiting approval from the Presidency, and the country’s investment share in the project is projected at CFA32.8 billion (approximately US$58.6 million). Led by AFR-IX Telecom and supported by the European Union, the Medusa project aims to establish a robust high-capacity submarine cable network that will connect Southern Europe with West and Central Africa by 2028.

Once operational, the Medusa Africa submarine cable will connect to Cameroon through the coastal city of Kribi, integrating the nation into one of the most advanced digital infrastructures in the region.
