CircuitX to Showcase Connected Motorsport Tech at MWC26 Barcelona
CircuitX will debut advanced mobile connectivity solutions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on March 1, before taking the stage at MWC26 Barcelona, according to GSMA Foundry. The three-year initiative aims to fuse motorsports and mobile innovation to reshape fan experiences and industry standards.
Inside CircuitX: Transforming Motorsports with Connectivity

CircuitX, launched by GSMA Foundry in 2025, is a collaboration between the Mobile World Capital, Fira de Barcelona, and key tech innovators. Its goal: to turn the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya into a hub for next-gen motorsport experiences driven by cutting-edge technology and connectivity.
The initiative features prominent industry players such as TelefĂłnica, Ericsson, and Semtech, delivering 5G-enabled solutions for teledriven cars, real-time telemetry, drone-based security, and immersive AR/VR for spectators. TelefĂłnica, providing 5G network coverage, headlines a roster of partners including Al Kamel Systems, NTT DATA, and MatSing.
The showcase will culminate at the Barcelona circuit on March 1, followed by an interactive exhibit at MWC26 from March 2–5. Visitors can explore demo pods in Hall 6, attend live sessions, and view a net-zero carbon Formula E Gen3 Evo race car.
Why It Matters: Connectivity Meets Motorsports

This initiative is more than a tech demo—it’s an exploration of how mobile connectivity can revolutionize motorsport operations, fan engagement, and safety standards. From live broadcast enhancements to drone security systems, CircuitX highlights 5G as the driving force behind these advancements. Market observers expect the project to create new opportunities for cross-industry partnerships, especially in IoT, broadcast, and AR/VR technology.
“CircuitX acts as both a proving ground and a blueprint for connected experiences across other industries,” GSMA CEO John Hoffman stated in an announcement. By integrating mobile technology into motorsports, GSMA aims to redefine possibilities for global live events.
Looking Ahead: Beyond the Track

The larger implications of CircuitX extend into the broader connectivity landscape. Industry analysts note that its fusion of motorsport and technology could influence other high-stakes industries like logistics, emergency response, and large-scale event management. Telefónica’s 5G involvement underscores the critical role of seamless and reliable networks in executing these applications.
With CircuitX running through 2028, the project’s milestones will likely serve as benchmarks for 5G and connected solutions’ capabilities. The question remains: Will CircuitX propel similar initiatives outside of motorsport?
