Deutsche Telekom Launches AI-Powered T Phone & T Tablet in Perplexity Partnership

Deutsche Telekom has introduced its latest innovations, the T Phone 3 and T Tablet 2, under the names ‘AI-phone’ and ‘AI-tablet’ through a partnership with Perplexity.
The German telecommunications company is not only offering these new devices as hardware upgrades but also as gateways to artificial intelligence for all users. The main highlight of this strategic move is the dedicated magenta button on the devices, allowing instant access to the Perplexity Assistant.
This integrated AI companion is tailored to assist with a variety of daily tasks, eliminating the need for users to seek and install multiple applications. The AI-phone provides an all-in-one solution, from discovering recipes for leftover ingredients to organizing a vacation. Activation of the assistant is simple by pressing the magenta button or double-clicking the power key, accepting queries via voice or text.
The system seamlessly interacts with pre-installed applications to execute tasks directly, such as serving as a personal secretary by creating calendar entries or summarizing emails. It can also act as a language expert, translating foreign menus, or functioning as a virtual travel agent by planning trips and securing reservations at restaurants through OpenTable or booking a taxi via Uber. Additional features include offering nutrition advice, crafting fitness plans, and suggesting shopping items.
Dominique Leroy, Board Member for Europe at Deutsche Telekom, stated, ‘In partnership with reliable allies, we are introducing the AI-phone to people throughout Europe. It manages everyday tasks efficiently, retrieves trustworthy information swiftly, saving time and effort for users to focus on what truly matters – where their ideas, creativity, and personal touch create a real impact.’
The affordability drive is supported by a competitive pricing scheme. In Germany, the AI-phone is priced at €149, while the AI-tablet is available for €199. Together with a network plan, each device costs only one euro.
This pricing includes an 18-month subscription to Perplexity Pro, enhancing the existing Perplexity Assistant embedded in the devices permanently. Buyers will also receive a complimentary three-month Picsart Pro subscription with 500 additional credits monthly.
Deutsche Telekom’s debut of the new AI phone and tablet extends beyond Germany. Customers in Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, and Slovakia can purchase the devices starting today, with pricing varying by market.
Besides the AI capabilities, the T Phone 3 and T Tablet 2 boast significant hardware enhancements. Both devices feature an upgraded chipset for improved performance and faster charging times. The AI-phone integrates advanced AI tools directly into its camera, enabling users to generate AI avatars and edit image backgrounds through its collaboration with Picsart.
The T Tablet 2 targets productivity and creativity with a spacious, eye-friendly screen powered by TCL NXTPAPER technology. It offers three distinctive screen modes for reading, studying, or drawing, and a compatible T-Pen stylus can be purchased separately for €29.95. Additionally, a ‘Pro’ version of the AI-phone is scheduled for release later this year.
Sustainability is a key focus for Deutsche Telekom. The T Phone 3 boasts the company’s #GreenMagenta certification and a 90 out of 100 score in the smartphone Eco Rating. The T Tablet 2 showcases a commitment to the circular economy, with 75 percent of its back panel crafted from post-consumer recycled plastic.
Deutsche Telekom is democratizing AI benefits to a broader customer base. Through the MeinMagenta app, all customers can access ‘Magenta AI,’ a new feature offering free access to Perplexity’s answer engine and an AI background editor powered by Picsart.
Claudia Nemat, Board Member for Technology and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom, emphasized, ‘Artificial intelligence is the defining technology of our era, bringing significant opportunities. The AI-phone and Magenta AI features in the app provide our customers with easy access to diverse AI services, allowing them to explore this technology firsthand.’
This launch aligns with robust market projections. IDC analysts forecast shipments of generative AI-capable smartphones to hit 912 million units by 2028, representing 70 percent of the market. This growth is attributed to increasing consumer demand for AI-driven features and parallel advancements in chipset technology.
Furthermore, a report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech highlights European consumers’ interest in AI functionalities such as real-time translation, camera enhancements, and search tools, all available on Deutsche Telekom’s new devices.
