Digital Realty has officially launched ACR2, marking its first-ever data centre in Ghana. Located in the capital city of Accra, this facility positions itself as a critical connectivity hub within Ghana’s digital landscape. With its close proximity to a dense network of fibre routes and subsea cables, including direct access to the cutting-edge 2Africa cable system, ACR2 is set to bolster regional and global connectivity.

The ACR2 facility offers a highly connected and carrier-neutral colocation service, with an impressive installed IT capacity of 1.7MW. This new infrastructure promises to serve the evolving needs of enterprises, financial institutions, telcos, and the public sector in Ghana. It provides these organizations access to secure, scalable, and compliant digital infrastructure, enabling seamless communication and data exchange across global markets. According to Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director of Digital Realty in Ghana, ACR2 aims to ensure secure local data storage while facilitating international connectivity. “From banking to fintech to telcos, our goal is simple: keep data secure locally, while keeping businesses globally connected,” said Koranteng.

The data centre’s location is uniquely equipped to meet data sovereignty regulations, offering trusted hosting solutions for critical industries like banking, fintech, and cloud services. Businesses in Ghana can leverage the same reliability and compliance standards they would expect from facilities in globally recognized hubs such as London, Amsterdam, or Johannesburg—all without leaving Accra. ACR2 not only ensures operational reliability but also fosters digital transformation by creating a strong foundation for emerging technologies and interconnectivity among enterprises.

Earlier this year, the London Internet Exchange (LINX) announced plans to establish Ghana’s first Internet Exchange Point (IXP) within the ACR2 facility once completed. This move further solidifies ACR2’s role as an integral part of Ghana’s digital future, enabling faster and more efficient routing of local internet traffic. Additionally, the combination of advanced technology and strategic global partnerships positions ACR2 as a driving force of innovation across Ghana’s economic sectors.

Digital Realty’s launch of ACR2 symbolizes a significant step forward in the nation’s digital progress. For Ghanaian organizations across industries, this facility opens up new possibilities for growth, innovation, and global competitiveness, reinforcing Ghana’s place on the global digital connectivity map.
