Empyrion Digital Secures Approval for 200+MW Data Centre Campus in Malaysia

Singapore-based data centre developer Empyrion Digital has announced a major milestone with the regulatory approval of its ambitious Johor Data Centre Campus (MY1) in Malaysia. This state-of-the-art hyperscale facility is set to become a major player in Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure, with plans for over 200MW power capacity. MY1 will be located in Nusajaya within the SiLC Industrial Cluster of Johor, covering a sprawling 34.9-acre site and featuring five buildings, each offering an IT load capacity of 40MW. The campus will be developed in carefully planned phases to support computing demands in areas such as high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud services.

Empyrion’s Commitment to Sustainable and Scalable Data Centres

The MY1 campus is designed with sustainability and efficiency at its core. Advanced cooling technologies, including both liquid and air-cooled systems, will ensure a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.3 and 1.4, respectively. Additionally, the facility will integrate access to green energy solutions through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), aligning the project with global renewable energy goals. Empyrion has already secured an initial 145MW power allocation through a strategic Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), with the first systems expected to be energized as early as September 2026. The full-scale launch is targeted for the fourth quarter of the same year. These initiatives underscore a growing need for environmentally conscious data centres that can support large-scale digital transformation.

Enhancing Cross-Border Connectivity

Apart from strengthening Malaysia’s domestic data infrastructure, MY1 is also set to play a critical role in cross-border digital connectivity. Empyrion has highlighted plans to connect its Johor campus with its SG1 data centre in Singapore, leveraging its sister connectivity platform SPTel, which operates under Seraya Partners’ AQX Digital Infrastructure. This strategic linkage aims to reinforce cross-border data traffic and offer robust connectivity solutions for businesses operating across the region. Such infrastructure complements Malaysia’s growing role as a regional hub for digital innovation and transformation.

Empyrion’s foray into Malaysia marks a significant step in its pan-Asian expansion strategy. Beyond its investment in Johor, which is the company’s largest investment to date, Empyrion operates data centres in key cities such as Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Bangkok. With Malaysia attracting attention through favorable policies, robust infrastructure, and increased demand for digital solutions, the Johor campus solidifies the country’s status as a growing destination for hyperscale data centres.
