FCS and T-Mobile Partner to Enhance Water Leak Detection with IoT Connectivity

Fluid Conservation Systems (FCS) collaborates with T-Mobile US to incorporate IoT connectivity into its acoustic water leak detectors, enabling continuous remote monitoring and reducing manual inspections for improved efficiency.
Overview
Fluid Conservation Systems (FCS) teams up with T-Mobile US to integrate long-standing acoustic water leak solutions with T-Mobile’s IoT network.
Key Points:
- Cellular IoT – FCS connects acoustic water leak solutions to T-Mobile’s IoT network, replacing manual inspections.
- Cost Savings – Cellular technology improves efficiency by eliminating manual inspections.
- Urgent Need – The partnership addresses water loss issues from aging infrastructure with environmental benefits.
US-based leak detection technology provider, Fluid Conservation Systems (FCS), selects T-Mobile US to provide IoT connectivity for its acoustic monitoring solutions. The collaboration aims to connect acoustic data loggers, in use for 40 years, to enable reduced manual checks and connection of sensors in remote areas.
Although the IoT connectivity technology chosen by FCS remains undisclosed, T-Mobile US supports various options including NB-IoT, LTE-M, 4G-LTE, and 5G technologies for high-powered IoT solutions.
T-Mobile’s IoT Network Expansion
In addition to its existing services, T-Mobile US plans to introduce a limited 5G service, known as 5G RedCap, in the US for intermediate IoT applications. The company highlights its ‘best mobile network’ recognition based on Ookla’s speed test intelligence, emphasizing the importance of coverage, reliability, and cost efficiency over speed for IoT operations.
Notable Features:
- FCS can remotely manage water leak detectors in challenging locations for practical data insights.
- T-Mobile’s network coverage extends to traditional black-spots and not-spots.
- Continuous monitoring reduces the need for manual labor and improves data accuracy.
FCS emphasizes its legacy in acoustic water leak detection technology and its collaboration with US utilities. The rugged acoustic sensors attach to water pipes, identifying leaks through unique acoustic signatures. The wireless connectivity provided by T-Mobile US enhances automated monitoring and reduces manual inspection costs.
T-Mobile’s network reliability improves data transmission from inaccessible areas, offering real-time insights to prevent significant water loss. This enhanced solution streamlines operations, mitigates costs, and prioritizes environmental benefits.
Beth Powell, President at Fluid Conservation Systems, states, ‘Our acoustic leak detectors, powered by T-Mobile’s connectivity, offer utilities real-time leak pinpointing, mitigating potential damages.’
George Fischer, Senior VP of Sales at T-Mobile’s business group, comments on the partnership’s positive impact on water management and resource conservation, setting new industry standards.
