Three senior executives in Intel’s manufacturing operations are set to retire as new CEO Lip-Bu Tan brings significant changes to revitalize the struggling U.S. chipmaker.

Corporate vice presidents Kaizad Mistry, Ryan Russell, and Gary Patton from the technology development group and the Design Technology Platform organization are retiring.

Intel is making alterations to the technology development group, focusing on manufacturing processes, with plans to downsize the manufacturing capacity planning and engineering teams.

Former Micron Technology executive Naga Chandrasekaran leads the manufacturing operations, with responsibilities expanded to include technology development and manufacturing.

CEO Tan aims to reduce Intel’s workforce by 22% by the year-end and take a disciplined approach to manufacturing investment, focusing on the Intel 14A process.

Intel expressed that the success of the 14A manufacturing process hinges on securing key customers, with significant emphasis on confirmed commitments for long-term development.

Additionally, Tan mentioned considerations about the 18A process, debating its allocation between in-house products and external offerings, with a focus on intensifying investment in the 14A technology.

The company is planning to mass-produce Panther Lake PC chips using the 18A manufacturing process this year.
