Pobl Group’s Merger Leads to Major Network Transformation with MLL

Introduction to Network Alignment Program

Pobl Group has initiated a significant digital transformation through its ‘Network Alignment’ program following its recent merger with Linc Cymru. This strategic collaboration forms the largest housing association in Wales, poised to be rebranded as Codi Group in January 2026.

The newly established group will oversee more than 24,000 homes across Wales and is set to expand its footprint with plans to build over 4,500 new homes in the next five years, significantly bolstering the Welsh economy.

Transitioning to a Cutting-edge SD-WAN Network

Before the rebranding, MLL is tasked with transitioning approximately 200 sites from the legacy MPLS networks of Pobl and Linc Cymru to a unified, secure, state-of-the-art SD-WAN network. The system will incorporate a Zero-trust architecture, ensuring managed real-time threat detection and response while integrating seamlessly with Azure Public Cloud, promoting cross-organization collaboration.

This ambitious project is expected to yield savings exceeding £500,000 over three years by optimizing procurement practices and consolidating infrastructure.

Quote and Outlook from Leadership

“This initiative is about more than just implementing new technology; it is fundamentally about constructing a secure, scalable digital backbone that will serve over 200 locations across Wales,” stated Peter Murphy, Head of Technology Operations at Pobl Group. “By merging two legacy networks into a single SD-WAN service, we are enhancing collaboration, improving cyber resilience, and enabling smarter service delivery to our teams and tenants.”

In a collective effort, procurement, technology, operations, and partners have collaborated to ensure seamless continuity, compliance, and broad-scale innovation, all to be executed securely within an impressive six-month timeline to deliver a positive return on investment within the first year.

MLL’s Commitment to Community and Future Innovation

Gail Harvey, MLL’s Business Development Director, expressed excitement over winning this substantial contract with the UK housing association. “We are thrilled to have secured this significant housing contract against fierce competition, where our quality of service and technological capabilities were key decisive factors for Pobl,” she noted.

“In both the immediate and long-term, we anticipate transitioning and managing Pobl’s network, subsequently supporting Codi Group, identifying further avenues for innovation, and assisting with future initiatives. We welcome the opportunity to enhance the Welsh community through the Pobl Trust, a registered charity dedicated to improving quality of life and creating opportunities for local residents.”
