T-Mobile and Ericsson have deployed a private 5G network for Czech manufacturer Tawesco in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band to support Industry 4.0 applications. Plans are underway to expand the project, covering the entire plant and sister companies within the Promet Group.

Key Points:

  • A private 5G SA network from T-Mobile and Ericsson is now operational at Tawesco’s main plant in Kopřivnice.
  • The Promet Group aims to replicate the network across other group companies.
  • Dozens of Industry 4.0 devices are already connected, with more to follow in line with the ‘smart factory’ vision.

The deployment, touted as a live ‘proof-of-concept,’ spans 5,000 square meters at Tawesco’s main plant. The network serves multiple devices like mobile devices, production machines, and handling equipment including conveyors, forklifts, cranes, and AGVs.

Operating in the 3400-3800 MHz band, the deployment leverages spectrum obtained by permission from T-Mobile. Local operators have been directed to allow enterprises access to this spectrum for private 5G networks as per Czech government rulings.

Location and Expansion:

Tawesco, part of the Promet Group, operates facilities in Úvaly, Nový Jičín, and Kopřivnice, serving different industrial sectors. The project’s success at Kopřivnice points to potential group-wide expansion, signaling a significant opportunity for providers.

With T-Mobile overseeing design and implementation and Ericsson handling the networks, the deployment marks a pioneering move in the Czech industrial landscape.

Innovative Vision:

Leaders at the Promet Group emphasize the importance of technological integration with Industry 4.0 devices, forecasting a future driven by smart factories and AI-controlled machinery within a well-connected 5G ecosystem.

Future Outlook:

The deployment signifies a pivotal moment for Czech industry, setting the stage for enhanced productivity, efficiency, and environmental sustainability through advanced technologies like 5G.
