Shoprite Group Announces Cash Back Partnership with Absa

Six months after terminating a deal with First National Bank’s eBucks rewards programme, Shoprite Group has revealed a new collaboration with Absa.
Shoprite, the owner of Checkers and the popular on-demand grocery delivery platform Sixty60, disclosed on Wednesday that the partnership with Absa will provide customers with cash back rewards of up to 60% throughout a two-month introductory period.
The agreement with Absa follows Shoprite’s previous agreements with Discovery (in August 2024) and Standard Bank (in April 2025).
Absa Rewards members are now eligible to earn cash back rewards when making purchases at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, or online through Sixty60, as per a joint statement by the two entities.
“Customers using qualifying Absa debit or credit cards will receive up to 60% cash back during the initial launch offer period (16 August to 15 October 2025), and then up to 30% subsequently, based on their rewards tier. The cashback is automated, distributed monthly, and can be spent, saved, or reinvested as per the customer’s discretion.”
According to the bank, Shoprite and Checkers comprise the most significant category of expenditure among Absa customers.
Rewards Millionaire
“The programme promotes consistent customer engagement by rewarding everyday spending behaviors, hence reinforcing Absa’s image as a bank that aligns with its customers,” the statement said.
Since its inception, Absa Rewards has disbursed over R6.6 billion to its customers, with one individual becoming a rewards millionaire. “Customers utilize their rewards for school supplies, snack purchases, fuel, and airtime – with some saving for major life milestones or supporting family members during challenging periods.”
