Six months after ending a deal with First National Bank’s eBucks rewards programme, Shoprite Group has initiated a new partnership with Absa.

Shoprite, the owner of Checkers and the popular Sixty60 on-demand grocery delivery platform, revealed on Wednesday that the collaboration with Absa will provide customers with cashback of up to 60% during a two-month introductory period.

The alliance with Absa follows similar agreements Shoprite made with Discovery in August 2024 and Standard Bank in April 2025.

Absa Rewards members are now eligible to receive cashback when making purchases at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, or online through Sixty60, as specified in a joint statement by both companies.

“Qualified purchases made with eligible Absa debit or credit cards will earn customers up to 60% cashback during the initial two-month promotional period (16 August to 15 October 2025), and subsequently up to 30% cashback, based on the customer’s rewards tier. The cashback is automated, paid monthly, and can be utilized, saved, or reinvested to suit the customer’s requirements,” the statement explained.

According to Absa, Shoprite and Checkers account for the highest category of expenditure among Absa’s clientele.

The rewards programme aims to promote continuous engagement by rewarding everyday spending patterns, thereby enhancing Absa’s reputation as a bank that caters to its customers’ needs,” the bank stated.

Since its inception, Absa Rewards has disbursed over R6.6 billion to its customers, with one individual achieving millionaire rewards status. Customers are utilizing their rewards for various purposes such as school supplies, snacks, fuel, airtime, savings for major life goals, as well as assisting family members during challenging times,” — © 2025 NewsCentral Media
