Six months after the eBucks rewards programme with First National Bank ended, Shoprite Group has revealed a fresh collaboration with Absa.

Shoprite, the owner of Checkers and the renowned Sixty60 on-demand grocery delivery platform, disclosed on Wednesday that the agreement with Absa will provide customers with cashback rewards of up to 60% during a two-month launch period.

The partnership with Absa follows similar agreements with Discovery (in August 2024) and Standard Bank (in April 2025).

Absa Rewards members are now eligible for cashback rewards while making purchases at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, or online via Sixty60, as per a joint statement from the two enterprises.

“Qualifying spend made with Absa debit or credit cards entitles customers to up to 60% cashback during the initial two-month promotional phase (16 August to 15 October 2025), followed by up to 30% cashback thereafter based on the customer’s rewards tier. The cashback is automatically credited monthly and can be utilized, saved, or reinvested as per the customer’s requirements.”

Shoprite and Checkers are identified as the prime spending categories among Absa customers, the bank stated.

Rewards Program

“The initiative promotes consistent engagement by rewarding daily spending patterns, thus positioning Absa as a bank that understands and meets customer needs,” the statement mentioned.

Sinc its inception, Absa Rewards has disbursed over R6.6 billion to customers, with one individual achieving millionaire status through the rewards program. “Customers are using their rewards for various purposes such as school supplies, snacks, fuel, airtime, savings for significant life objectives, or supporting family members through challenging months.” — © 2025 NewsCentral Media
