Six months after terminating its deal with First National Bank rewards programme eBucks, Shoprite Group has revealed a new collaboration with Absa.

Shoprite, the owner of Checkers and the popular Sixty60 on-demand grocery delivery platform, announced that the partnership with Absa will provide customers with cash back rewards of up to 60% during a two-month introductory phase.

The agreement with Absa follows similar partnerships that Shoprite formed with Discovery (in August 2024) and Standard Bank (in April 2025).

Absa Rewards members are now eligible to earn cash back rewards when shopping at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, LiquorShop, or through the Sixty60 online platform, as stated by both companies in an official announcement.

“Qualifying purchases made with Absa debit or credit cards will receive up to 60% cash back during the initial two-month promotional period (16 August to 15 October 2025), and thereafter up to 30% cash back, depending on the customer’s rewards tier. The cash back rewards are automatically credited, paid on a monthly basis, and can be utilized, saved, or reinvested based on the customer’s preferences.”

According to the bank, Shoprite and Checkers are the top spending categories among Absa customers.

Rewards Millionaire

“The program incentivizes ongoing engagement by rewarding daily spending habits, thereby enhancing Absa’s reputation as a bank that caters to the customer’s needs,” it stated.

Since its inception, Absa Rewards has disbursed more than R6.6 billion to its customers, with one individual achieving rewards millionaire status. “Customers are using their rewards for school supplies, snacks, fuel, airtime, saving for significant life goals, or supporting family members during challenging times.” — © 2025 NewsCentral Media
