Sparkle and Algérie Télécom to Build High-Capacity Submarine Cable Linking Italy and Algeria
Sparkle and Algérie Télécom have reached an agreement to construct a high-capacity submarine cable connecting Italy and Algeria. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Sparkle, a prominent international service provider, and Algérie Télécom, the primary telecommunications operator in Algeria, aims to enhance connectivity between the two nations.
The announcement took place during the sixth Italy-Algeria Business Forum in Rome. The agreement outlines the collaboration to develop a dedicated subsea cable that will offer improved performance and latency, catering to the escalating demand for internet services in the region.
Enrico Bagnasco, CEO of Sparkle, expressed enthusiasm, stating that this initiative signifies a substantial advancement in digital communication between Europe and North Africa. The project not only focuses on infrastructure development but also on delivering secure and efficient connectivity solutions.
Adel Bentoumi, CEO of Algérie Télécom, emphasized the strategic alliance with Sparkle, highlighting the project’s role in expanding international communication routes and meeting the growing demands of customers in Algeria.
In addition to reinforcing digital ties, the Italy-Algeria Business Forum seeks to fortify bilateral relations in key sectors like energy, innovation, and education. The collaboration aligns with the Mattei Plan for Africa, promoting balanced partnerships and mutual benefits.
