U Mobile Launches Ultra5G Network with Advanced Indoor Coverage in Malaysia

U Mobile Officially Launches Ultra5G in Malaysia
Malaysian telecom operator U Mobile marked a major milestone on Monday with the official launch of its standalone 5G network, branded Ultra5G. The launch took place at two prominent locations: U Mobile’s headquarters in Berjaya Times Square (BTS) and Penang Bridge 1, both of which are now fully covered by 5G infrastructure. This significant step solidifies U Mobile’s commitment to reshaping Malaysia’s digital connectivity landscape with a strong emphasis on indoor 5G experiences, providing users with next-generation speeds and seamless reliability.
The event showcased the new network’s capabilities with cutting-edge demonstrations designed to highlight 5G’s impressive potential. Attendees experienced a stunning 4K livestream from a roller coaster ride at the Berjaya Times Square Theme Park, participated in an immersive mixed-reality demonstration, and observed innovations like 5G network slicing. These practical showcases illustrated how Ultra5G can merge high-speed connectivity with creative real-world applications, offering a glimpse into the future of digitalized living and working environments.
Strategic Deployment and Focus on Indoor Environments
According to U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer, Woon Ooi Yuen, the telco’s immediate focus is on deploying its Ultra5G network in strategic indoor environments such as airports, hospitals, convention centers, and other densely populated areas. “With deployment ahead of schedule, U Mobile is doubling down on indoor coverage to provide the widest and deepest 5G experience in Malaysia,” Yuen stated during the launch. The company aims to fill a critical gap in indoor connectivity, ensuring Malaysian consumers and businesses have uninterrupted access to 5G’s lightning-fast speeds and low latency in areas where it matters most.
The initial rollout of Ultra5G includes plans to cover over 170 buildings within the next 12 months. Looking further ahead, U Mobile is targeting an ambitious deployment to more than 600 buildings in the next four years. By focusing on both high-impact indoor and outdoor areas, the network provider hopes to play a pivotal role in driving digital transformation across multiple industries, improving everything from healthcare to entertainment and smart city solutions.
Partnerships Driving 5G Expansion
U Mobile’s progress on Ultra5G has been bolstered by collaborations with industry-leading infrastructure stakeholders. Earlier in the year, the telco partnered with EdgePoint Infrastructure and OCK Telco Infra, a subsidiary of OCK Group specializing in telecom network solutions. These partnerships position U Mobile to accelerate the development of robust, scalable 5G in-building solutions, enabling a seamless user experience across diverse environments.
Looking ahead, U Mobile is aiming for 80% 5G coverage of populated areas across Malaysia by the second half of 2026. The aggressive deployment timeline underscores the company’s commitment to bringing top-notch connectivity solutions to Malaysians while contributing to the nation’s broader goals for digital economy advancement. With Ultra5G, U Mobile is not only elevating consumer and enterprise connectivity but also setting a benchmark for innovation within the local telecom landscape.
