One of the most anticipated categories of the WCAs is the 5G Award, which this year went to Singtel in partnership with Ericsson for their innovative Singtel 5G+ offering. This solution redefined network value through slicing technology, introducing a Security-as-a-Slice feature that actively blocks over 6.6 million threats monthly. Judges remarked that the solution’s democratization of network slicing delivered unparalleled everyday value to customers. The Access Innovation Award also celebrated advancements in 5G, with Ericsson and Telstra earning accolades for their triple-band FDD Massive MIMO solution. This innovation replaces multiple radios with a single unit, drastically improving capacity while reducing power consumption—a foundational step toward next-generation radio access networks.

Driving AI, Digital Transformation, and Cybersecurity Forward

AI and digital transformation were front and center at this year’s awards. Jio Platforms stole the spotlight in the AI Innovation category with their in-house JioBrain, processing a staggering 350 billion data points daily and dramatically improving operational efficiency across over 200 million 5G users. Similarly, Ericsson and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison earned the Best Digital Transformation Programme award by unifying their fragmented BSS landscape into an agile digital monetization platform. Cybersecurity also took center stage, with Jio Platforms receiving the Cyber Security Award for their Quantum-Safe Security Suite, a solution that sets new standards for future-proofing telecom infrastructure against imminent threats.

VEON’s JazzCash mobile money platform, for instance, garnered the Beyond Connectivity Award for driving financial inclusion in Pakistan and transforming the lives of over 48 million people. Similarly, Airband won the Connected Communities Award for its cutting-edge Fixed Wireless Access solution, showcasing genuine technological innovation to bridge the digital divide in underserved areas.

Recognizing Leadership in Emerging Technologies and Sustainability

The WCA categories also celebrated advancements in emerging technologies and sustainability. Singtel’s Quantum-Safe Network, which addresses the looming challenges associated with quantum computing, earned the Future Award. Meanwhile, the Sustainability Award honored Vodafone’s “One for One” program, which focuses on reducing e-waste through innovative services. This dual focus on technical refinement and ecological responsibility underscores the industry’s commitment to a sustainable future.

Additional noteworthy winners included Lumitel, which earned the Best Operator in a Growth Market award for its transformative efforts in one of the world’s most challenging regions, Burundi. Despite significant barriers, Lumitel succeeded in fostering a digitally connected society, demonstrating how telecom operators can serve as a lifeline for national progress. Similarly, Palestine Telecommunications Company – Jawwal received the Crisis Response Award for its resilience in maintaining connectivity amid significant network damage and widespread displacement in the region.
